Masters Bulletin 1 - updated on February 15, 2023

The Danish Canoe Federation, Sport Event Denmark, SportsCenter Denmark, the Triangle Events, and the Vejen Municipality have the great honor of welcoming the canoe world elite to the 2023 ICF Masters Canoe Marathon World Championships.

The World Championships will take place in a unique and traditional setting at Lake Jels in the municipality of Vejen,  Denmark. We are excited to offer participants and spectators a special experience in one of Denmark’s central Viking areas  where, to this day, many of the proud Viking traditions are passionately displayed. With an innovative approach to old  traditions, we create a focus on health, Nordic food, and sustainability.

The beautiful surroundings on and around Lake Jels will form the framework for the competitions whereas Sportscenter Denmark will be a vibrant Athlete Village catering to all the needs for the athletes’ stay. We are here to create the best  possible setting for an unforgettable experience and a fair race.

See you in August!

On behalf of the organizing committee,
Mayor of Vejen Municipality
Frank Schmidt-Hansen

We are planning a huge Viking party offering participants and spectators a special experience in one of Denmark’s central Viking areas, where to this day many of the proud Viking traditions are passionately maintained. The central focal  point is nature, which we use as an arena for the world Championships, with a great focus on how to take better care of it. With an innovative approach to old traditions, we create a focus on health, Nordic food, and sustainability.

The Vikings were unsurpassed masters on the water, could party, and explore with a special endurance. We will pass on that
inspiration. The 2023 ICF Masters Canoe Marathon World Championships will show both international athletes, family, and tourists that we in Denmark and the Triangle area have the surroundings, the skills, and the community to create a professional, festive, and exciting event beyond the ordinary.

The majority of the accommodations will be part of the
Athlete Village. Sportscenter Denmark will be, in the best
Olympic city style, a vibrant center for the athletes’ stay and catering. It is also Sportscenter Denmark who will be your contact for any and all accommodation needs.

We are creating a temporary campus for all teams and participants where everything an athlete needs or desires is gathered in one place. We can offer a wide variety of accommodation opportunities within 800 meters from the  Sportscenter: The  Sportscentre´s own 4 star hotel, a youth hostel, cabins, dorms, and a gym style set-up. In other words, there is an accommodation opportunity for all needs and budgets.

An important aspect of the athletes village is not confined to being where participants sleep and eat. This is a canoe-village for a week where we can offer a broad selection of activities athletes and  coaches alike can enjoy with their fellowcanoeists.

There is the opportunity to go for a swim in the pools, treat yourself to a visit in the wellness center, or just
hang out in one of the lounge areas adapted specifically for athletes. We are creating a village atmosphere specifically for paddlers.

There will be point-to-point shuttle service from the Athletes Village and the venue in Jels. It is a 20 minute drive and we will have the shuttle service organized with extra buses during peak hours.

For the ICF World Championships, ICF World Cups and ICF Ranking Races and Continental Championships, every athlete, coach, and support personnel must pass the relevant anti-doping online course on the Anti-Doping Education Learning platform (ADEL) corresponding to their role OR the corresponding NATIONAL course. This is also mandatory for masters.

For example, the Danish Masters should take this course with Antidoping Denmark instead of the ADEL.

Athletes who have completed the online anti-doping education in the previous years are not required to complete the course again.
